Skoda Kushaq 2026 facelift
The 1.0L turbo petrol engine in the Skoda Kushaq 2026 facelift is the same as the older model. It comes with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a new 8-speed automatic (torque converter), which Skoda says is the first in this segment.
The engine feels smooth for a 3-cylinder unit. When you start driving, the car responds well and moves easily. It performs nicely even at low speeds and does not feel weak. There is a little turbo lag, but the gearbox hides it quite well. The turbo starts working properly around 2000 rpm. However, if you expect a strong sudden boost, you may find the power delivery a bit soft.
In city traffic, the Kushaq is very easy to drive. It moves smoothly even in slow, bumper-to-bumper traffic. Without pressing the accelerator, the car can crawl at around 8 km/h. One downside is that it has a manual handbrake, so there is no auto-hold feature, which could have been useful in traffic.
Overall, city driving is comfortable. The power comes in a smooth and linear way. The light steering, compact size, high seating position, good controls, and clear front view make it very easy to handle in the city.
On highways, the engine performs even better. The mid-range and top-end power are strong, and the engine pulls smoothly up to around 5500 rpm. It also sounds sporty and not rough at high speeds. The car can easily cruise at high speeds (100+ km/h), and the engine runs at around 2000 rpm, making long drives comfortable.
The biggest update is the new 8-speed automatic gearbox (from Aisin). It works very smoothly, and you won’t feel any jerks while changing gears. In daily driving, it selects the right gear most of the time.
There is also a Sport (S) mode, which holds gears longer and gives slightly quicker response. You also get a manual mode and paddle shifters if you want more control.
This gearbox is tuned for better fuel efficiency, so it shifts to higher gears. However, if you suddenly press the accelerator hard (kickdown), it takes a little time to respond. It is not as quick as some other automatic gearboxes. The response is slightly better in Sport mode, and using paddle shifters can help you manage this delay.
